A UK AI consulting and development firm, running on its own agents.
NextStep Modern Solutions is a UK-based AI consulting and development firm. We work out where AI genuinely pays in a business, then we build it. The company is owned and run by two Managing Directors, Dan Kemp and James Hollis, and our own day to day runs on the same agents we build for clients.

How the company got its second director
James was a client first, and then he bought into the company.
It is the shortest honest answer we have to whether any of this actually works.
He was a customer
James came to NextStep the same way anyone does, with a business and a problem, and no connection to us.
He bought a transformation
For his own company, Renewable Power Solutions. He paid for it like any other client.
He lived with it
Long enough to know whether it held up in his own week, which is the only test that counts.
Then he bought in
He invested in NextStep and came on board as an equal partner and Managing Director.
Somebody paid for the work, ran his own business on it, and then backed the people who built it.
Why the thinking is the expensive part
The build is the easy half. Knowing what to build is the rest.
Most of what AI could do in a business is not worth doing. We spend our time on the small number of things that are, because picking wrong is more expensive than building slowly. We see the whole business as one system rather than a list of tools, so we can tell which change moves everything behind it and which one just looks busy.
The work that makes money
Faster quotes, enquiries answered while they are still warm, nothing falling down the back of the pipeline. We go after the jobs that sit closest to the money first.
The hours you buy back
The repeating admin that eats an owner’s week and shows up in no one’s job description. It is usually the fastest thing to take away and the first thing anyone notices.
The weight off your head
The chasing, the remembering, the low hum of things you are meant to be on top of. Hardest to measure, most often the reason somebody picks up the phone to us.
Why we are doing this
We think this is the most interesting thing to happen to small business in years
Most of the businesses we meet are good at the thing they do and quietly buried by everything around it. The quoting, the chasing, the writing up, the remembering. That work never made anybody rich and it never will, and for the first time there is something real that can take it off the table.
We are not standing outside it telling you what to do. Our own company runs on the agents we build, so we find the rough edges before you do. If we did not believe in it we would not have pointed it at ourselves first.
That is also why we will tell you when the answer is no. Some of what people ask us for should not be built, and saying so costs us a sale and keeps us honest.
